For D-Day/Normandy invasion check out episode2 'Day of Days'
For the push into Germany look at episodes:
8 'The Last Patrol'
9 'Why We Fight'
10 '10-Points'
BTW, not WW2 related but if you have not seen 'Generation Kill' I highly recommend it. Based on a first hand account (by "Reporter") of a Marine Recon unit in the run up to and early aftermath of the second Iraq war, only seven episodes, it's tight and well made.Very good stuff for the most part.

The episode in B.O.B. where they ( a couple of squads or a platoon from Easy company) take out the German 88s. I believe I read at the end of that episode that the small unit tactics used are still taught at West Point today. Prolly not the histrorical perspective Dave's gal is looking for but a personal favorite epi.
that should be released in 2009. This time following a Marine platoon. I'm really looking forward to it.
In BOB the interviews with the veterans of Easy Company put a stamp of authenticity on the series although I've also read the book by Stephen Ambrose and the producers of the series do take some liberties with events etc. Doesn't change the fact that it is one of the best WW2 series or movies ever made.
I've watched 'Generation Kill' three times now...so easy to get caught up with those guys and as with any good performance start to care about what happens to them. Very very good stuff IMO.
