I read the book after viewing the episodes on PBS. In the book homosexuality is directly referenced, but without any graphic descriptions. The TV version if anything downplayed the homosexuality of Sebastian, but was balanced by a brief topless shot of Diana Quick... I would say that the TV version expressed about 95-97% of the book. This came out when I was in HS and I remember all of the girls going gaga over Jeremy Irons and the actor playing Sebastian.
The movie sank quickly which was about what it deserved.
Best,
Ross
Follow Ups:
That is what I thought. The film is more open ( the 2009::) that the TVīs.
But what about the central theme of Catholicism.
Which of them is the better in this.
Maybe I should read the book..
