War movie from 1968 set in a European country. Got it from Hamilton remaindered books for 7.95. Not the kind of movie I love to see everyday, but worthwhile. Perhaps the best Bergman movie I have seen and something to think about. How do civilians live while a civil war rages in their country?
Follow Ups:
This is one I've only seen once, and am overdue to revisit. A very strong connection to "The Passion of Anna", which is one of my favorites.
Also some similarities to Tarkovsky's "The Sacrifice".

I just received "The Stalker" from Netflix. I was entranced by his Solaris. Looking forward to viewing this in the next few days. Perhaps I'll end up viewing all of his before I'm done.
The Passion of Anna is now up for some research, thanks. Someone said that Shame and Cries and Whispers were Bergman's best. Any opinion on Cries and Whispers?
