racing (Indy Car, F3, F1) you'll note the high percentage of Brazilian drivers, most if not all of whom come from very wealthy families, allowing them the luxury of continual training and sponsorship as they made their way up the racing ladder.

Not necessarily from the super rich, no. The real reason is the spectacular junior racing programs which - tinear 15:51:45 06/10/09 (0)
aren't dominated by family owned or run enterprises. Many times, like in horse-racing, the driver is picked from a pool of talented guys. Go-cart racing is huge in Brazil.
