Yes, Korean comedy is dark. Not news. Most Korean movies are dark. Even in their romantic comedies the people tend to die. Horribly. That's not the point. Much of it is simply based on Korean culture. I didn't appreciate the comedy in The Host, And I didn't even recognize it in Welcome to Dongmakgol (that had to be explained to me by a Korean), to name a few off the top of my head that you may know.

Its an anti-war movie. Very well done, with some light hearted moments, but the main female lead speaks in an accent that makes fun of a specific region in Korea (so I was told). Apparently, some Koreans found that hilarious.
