"Rabbit" is far more subtle in showing the impacts of the system on the lives of those surrounding the jailed; it also dissects the thoughts and actions of a highly placed judge. The incarcerated brother isn't glorified, he isn't the center of the film so our empathy isn't brought to bear, directly. And his sister, the centerpiece of the film, is a complex character, not a one-dimensional heroine gamely and bravely fighting against an oppressor. This film was banned for decades and it is easy to see why!
