Interesting film that just reeks of Valerie Plame and her woes. The sitting president is hit in an assassination attempt and CIA is dispatched to Venezuela to verify if the socialist regime is guilty of the attack. Valerie Farmiga plays an undercover CIA that went to Venezuela and wrote in her findings they were NOT guilty of planning the attack. Despite her findings the administration launches retaliatory attacks.
Kate finds out through a source that Farmiga is the agent who wrote the dissenting report which was leaked to her. Her story shakes D.C. and things start happening fast.
Matt Dillion shows up a freshly appointed Special Prosecutor who immediately picks up Kate just to let her know she was in deep shit. Dillion convenes a Grand Jury in record time and Kate ends up in the clink charged with contempt. The newspaper attorney, Noah Wylie, calls for an inside the beltway attorney to handle court--Alan Alda in an always fine performance.
We watch the disentigration of Kate's marriage to David Schwimmer as he gives into his needs while holding back their son from visitation.
The film wraps up after a year in the clink on contempt when Alda loses a 5 to 4 SCOTUS decision for national security over freedom of press. The judge relents and convinces Dillion to dismiss the Grand Jury and Kate gets sprung only to be arrested on the way home with a new crimnal charge.
The final wrap up of the movie has a nice twist and you realize why Kate would never give up her source even though she was then sentenced to 2 years in jail.
A real Kafa-esque tail that is quick and compelling. I give it 3.5 out of 5 and is a Netflix must.
Share a bowl of grits with someone you love tonight.
