It's not a great movie by any means, but it doesn't take itself too seriously. There were some genuine laugh-out-loud moments which made it worthwhile (I nearly fell off my seat during the scene where the hero gets shown shagging one of the aliens).
It takes risks in its style and actually has characters with personality, even if the plot is silly and doesn't make sense. Anything which avoids being a Hollywood cliche is a good thing in my book. Will I buy it on Blu-Ray? Nope...
Follow Ups:
For me, the characters were two dimensional and strictly comic-book.
If the movie was meant to be tongue in cheek then fair enough, the film gets a firm 'D' rather than a 'D-.
All the feedback and soundbites I'd read seemed to indicate this was an 'awesome' sci-fi movie though, not a comedy.
Today is a gift - that's why it's called the Present.
Best Regards,
Chris Redmond.
