Depp was grossly miscast and dug himself a deep hole by trying to give some humanity to a violent killer. I was looking forward to Mann's visual touch. I only saw it once; the brief scene showing the gangster's back-lit dying breath.

Since he was mentioned in this thread.

Back in the early 1970's, I knew several people in New York City, that were " connected ". In my opinion, Gandolfini's acting as a mobster, is one of the most overrated performances I have ever ever seen. Of course, I am comparing it to actual living people that I knew.
Not fiction, not at all.
