very young sisters (6-year old and her sister who appears to be 3-ish) abandoned by their mother to a sister-in-law outside of her native Seoul.
This is a beautiful film which intelligently, through skillful camera work and editing, places the viewer very close to the girls, both mise-en-scene-wise as well as emotionally. That being said, I don't think it approaches the greatness of Kore-eda's earlier effort, "Nobody Knows," or the superb Chinese film which also tells a tale of child abandonment, "To Live."
Still, this film has more heart and skill than 1000 Hollywood blockbusters with either blue or more naturally skin-hued actors.
