Ildiko Enyedi's, "Simon, the Magician," from Hungary.
A rotund, older psychic from Budapest is summoned by the Parisian police to solve a disturbing and seemingly unsolvable murder.
While there, he is challenged by another medium to a battle to the death, complicated by a strong attraction which he feels for a young student.
Like the films of the other directors I above mention, that isn't exactly something that makes one leap from the couch to procure. However, this is a parable, somewhat so, of Jesus' meeting with Simon. It is quite unlike any other film you will see, the central character is original and beautifully portrayed, the sights of Paris are gorgeous, and.... the love interest isn't cutesy or weird. What more do you want?
It is a special film that calls for a repeat viewing in which, very soon, I shall indulge.
