well, yes, he did have problems but his problems at work were NOT self-inflicted. Remember the scene in the parking structure? He was attacked for being a foreigner, an immigrant, by skinhead-types. He also was there because his mother was married to a less-than-ideal Austrian husband whose callous, cynical abuse of his stepson made the guy's life all-but-impossible. Psychology is not to be dismissed where human beings and their lives are concerned, right?
At any rate, the life of immigrants seldom is portrayed in such realistic, stark terms. The woman I especially found moving, her fight with the Austrian worker was wrenching.

I am sorry, but I suspect all of us have gone in our lives through things as harsh, brutal, or WHOLE LOT MORE brutal, than what that guy experienced, and we still manage to do something with our lives.Being bullied by a bunch of idiots... is that really a sufficient excuse for becoming a low life? I mean - not beaten into pulp, just humiliated, drenched in beer and left with pants down... I do not think so... ditto for a less than perfect home environment. Not horrible... not abusing... not insestious... just somewhat trashy.
This is pure victimhood looking for an excuse.
