to make money in the American market. Foreign movies don't make much.
Follow Ups:
Plus it was hilarious - crack cast too.
The remake - even the trailer was painful to watch.
Not a good remake.
and have seen it about 5 times now. I thought the trailer to the remake was funny, but due to mediocre reviews, I passed on the remake. In money terms, box office mojo says the original made about 8 1/2 million in the U.S. (quite a bit more around the world but that's not really the topic here).
The remake, according to the same source, has made close to 30 million in the U.S. in its first 12 days of release.
And that's not chicken feed. They are getting what they wanted from the remake.
Edit: forgot to mention the original was made for only 9 million while the remake cost 21 million. Still, it's well in the black and has not even been released in foreign markets yet. It looks to be a moderate size hit.
