I saw it last night "On Demand". This movie might be worth the rental fee for some folks. Warning, there is a scene of extreme cruelty to an animal that we regard as a pet. And this may be disturbing for some, or many. But this opening scene lets the viewer have a clue as to just what kind of world the movie inhabits.I thought the way that the story developed was interesting. We learned about Washington's character Eli in a sequence of events that seemed to intensify viewer interest...up to the point where his true purpose is revealed, and then once we know what that purpose really is, there is sort of a let down. There was for me anyway.
At one point you can wonder if Eli is really human. It is suggested that perhaps he is something more than human. How else can we explain his ability to survive against impossible odds? Oldman's character, Eli's principal challenge, certainly has an opinion on that very issue.
The action sequences were well choreographed. Artfully done.
The cinematography gives us a beautiful view of a bleak and completely trashed North American southwest landscape.
The acting was first tier and convincing on all principal characters. On the whole I can take it or leave it, but have to admit that the movie did keep me interested right up to the last parts.
