forgotten gem. Perhaps because it stars Aldo Ray, usually known for his war films, this one almost disappeared. It deserves more: Ray portrays a vet on the run--- we don't find out why for quite some time--- from two different pursuers. Into this violent chase sashays the very sexy, young Anne Bancroft whose mouth already could be twisted into a sexy snarl. Brian Keith, with a vicious sidekick who should be a noir legend, wants $300,000 from Ray--- and isn't hesitant to kill and torture to get it.
Ray, Bancroft, the actor who portrays the sadistic thug, and Keith aren't the only reasons to see this: the story is well told in flashbacks and the on-location wilderness scenes are spectacular.
Noir fans: don't wait on this one!
