"Below" - Story set in 1943 in the North Atlantic on one of our subs that gets a call to pick up some survivors drifting at sea. As soon as they get aboard weird stuff starts happening. Supernatural stuff that slowly unwinds the ships officers and crew. Written by Darren Aronofsky this film has a good, compelling plot line and excellent acting by the cast. Not produced as a "A" movie it still outshines "B". It was filmed inside of the USS Silversides (WWII) which makes it the best submarine set this side of "Das Boot". I almost stood up and clapped when they dived the first time as it showed a crewman cut the diesels while another hit the batteries. Most here will think this is a fly-weight film being a semi-horror story but those who like subs and war will do just fine.
"The Chaser" - I love contemporary Korean film. Everything they do is so much like ours but much, much better. They don't have that same studio, GM mentality this country feeds us with.
This is the story of an ex-detective that got kicked off the force and soon became a pimp with a heart of silver. He notices that he had lost three girls recently and thought that a john had hired them then sold them off to another pimp. He goes in search of one of his girls who goes missing only to meet up with a young serial killer that has done this to more than three girls. The film has a lot of action, a quick moving plot, and enough hammers-to-heads to keep your potato chip consumption down for the 2:04 it takes to tell the story. Like most foreign films the endings aren't always happy ones but getting there is half the fun, right? If your lips don't move too much you can handle the subtitles just fine.
