especially.
Director Gillo Pontecorvo, justifiably immortalized for the brilliant "The Battle of Algiers," cast Yves Montand as the Italian fisherman who alienates his small-island peers by using dynamite to survive in tough times. Before you scream out about the ludicrousness of casting a Frenchman in such a role, be aware that Montand was born and grew up in Italy, only leaving when Fascism arrived.
This film is a cross between, "The Bicycle Thief," and "La Terra Trema," though I mean it no disrespect in pointing that out: it is a fine film which deserves far more attention.
I must mention that the fisherman's daughter is one of the most luscious, ripe actresses to grace the screen of that, or any other, era.
