That includes the star of the film; the Alien itself. The original Giger creature inspired real terror. It was almost an abstract force, whereas the 'Aliens' were basically a shooting gallery collection of pop-up disposable space roaches. The cute lit'l Face Hugger scurrying around the infirmary in "Aliens" was a bit more lively than the sushi-platter version in the first film, so that's something, at least.

I worked on Aliens. We were given all the original molds from Alien as a reference and some of the original suit material and an original face hugger. While the designs were nothing short of extraordinary (Giger is easily one of if not the most influential non makeup effects artist in the world of makeup effects)the execution was crude to say the least. We were all pretty shocked. It had to be shot in shadows so as to not show how poorly constructed it was. Much like the ever breaking mechanical shark in Jaws. It may have been a blessing in disguise.
