Hey not everyone is going to like every movie that some people consider great films. Citizen Kane is often rated as the best film ever made and I just can't see why. It was good but I would not place it in the best of anything list. I have seen it several times and maybe one day it will click.
I watched A Clockwork Orange and shut it off it was so bad. Then I made myself watch it again all the way through the next day and it clicked and it still remains one of my favorite all time movies. Perhaps the reviewer needs to see it again or he/she was in a bad mood when he watched it.
Conversely, some movies get overrated when the expectations are very low. When you expect it to be terrible and it winds up being somewhat mediocre it may be rated as "good" rather than mediocre. Take Transformers - I was expecting it to be the worst move ever made - Hollywood crap etc. And yet I walked out of the theater somewhat grinning. So I thought - gee that was pretty good. Then it came out on DVD and I thought - hey I could watch that again. WRONG! Dreadful waste of time. But at the time I first saw it - for whatever reason it was a bit of guilty pleasure hoot. Second time around it was banal drivel - so I traded the DVD in to get some vinyl.
