He begins, once he miraculously mends, to construct a new reality, made out of model figures that represent characters in a World War II drama of his own creation, with characters having complex lives and interactions, all centered in the make-believe Belgian town of Marwencol. The story of Mark Hogancamp, as told by documentary director Jeff Malmberg, is so engaging as to transcend the rather mundane telling.
