By none other than Claude Lelouch!
It is a good film that covers a lot of territory and keeps your interest alive almost till the end... why is it that so many fine suspense films are spoiled by lackluster endings? Worst of all - if it has to be verbally explained in the end.
Roman de Gare doesn't quite go that far, but its suspense begins to fizzle minutes before the end, although even then there are some fine moments.
The film contains a fine performance by Dominique Pinon and a hilarious second fiancee scene - in fact the whole farm part is quite interesting and well done.
Not a great masterpiece, admittedly... but whole lot better than average today, very entertaining and even in parts thought-provoking effort, even if it falls somewhat short of its intended target.
I do recommend it.
