Bear in mind that 90% of film sound is accomplished in post-pro, so there's no need for an actor to be able to do it live.

"Franco is an idiot." Kinda clunky in women's clothes too, I expect you noticed.

  That is more that could be said for you and I... Patrick too... :(
  
  Portman is nothing but a minor actress, cute at times, but with no depth or ability to express feelings. Such actors are abound. So there is simply an expectation gap - lower them and she is suddenly fine.
  
  Now... as far as Patrick's cow girl Scarlett - I only caught a quick shot on a news, and that was awful enough.
  
  I also caught Ann's singing - I am sure that was a sound track, but still, very nice.
