coyly refused to state if they actually were "angels?" God referred to as "The Chairman."
So there we have it. The corporate virus has infected even our theology. God the Suit.
Damon is NOT a romantic lead. And he has one unbelievably dominant characteristic that dooms him in any complex role: his earnestness. No mystery, no multi-facets. He's just a good guy. One-dimensional. The guy-next-door. Blunt is good, but with all the clinkers to deliver, she hardly could do very much. From her dancing, it's easy to see how much better she would have been in "Black Swan." I bet she'd heard of that role and got in shape for it and then decided to use her star power to have this character's skill written in so all her work hadn't gone for naught.
Anyhow, give this piece of flimsy dreck a W I D E birth. On the other hand, if you're looking to pick-up a babe, this is the film of the year. The family went to another film (I'd seen it) so I saw this alone. I was surrounded by women.
Follow Ups:
The Adjustment Bureau is loosely based on a classic short story by Philip K. Dick, The Adjustment Team (orig. published in 1954). Nothing about this film was done "coyly" to play games with the audience; theology isn't even relevant to the story. Of course the implication is that the operatives probably are angels or superior beings and the chairman is probably god, but that is never overt and part of what makes this film work is that it play as much into alien visitation mythos as it does christian mythology.
Sorry you get uncomfortable being surrounded by women. My wife and I saw this one together and we both thought Adjustment Bureau was an excellent film; so there you have it: two recommendations.
