attempting to somehow justify his crimes by alluding to his military service in Algeria is a tad pathetic. I don't know why so many directors fall into the trap of trying to make vicious criminals seem like THEY'RE the victims.
Still, it's a good criminal yarn, well told, for all it's moral failings. Cassel is very good, though he pales in comparison to the mercurial Edgar Ramirez in "Carlos." Depardieu has a very nice turn in a small role.
Netflix streams Part 1, however Part II isn't yet available, even on disc! Sacre bleu! MERDE!
I noticed that the omnipresent Ludovine is in Part II: there must be a law that she must appear in EVERY French film above a certain budget. I wonder if in this film she continues her tireless pursuit of the bare-breasted exhibition record held by the indomitable Kate Winslet?

...I was still too much 'moved' by the later, otherwise I would be more impressed - still good or better then what Hollywood is giving us - most of the time.
