Early on their average quality was higher, but it seems with the popularity of the service growing, their servers have been unable to keep up.
Months ago it was not rare to receive the HD quality, but it has been sliding continuously, and now, if we try to watch during prime time, say from 9pm, most of the time we get VERY long loading time and often end up with two-dot quality meter, which is below your typical rental VHS tape quality.
Sometimes we get three dots (Ok to watch), and very rarely four (reasonably good), I forgot when it was last time we received the HD.
It is very time-of-day and day-of-week dependent, apparently reflecting the demand.
Also, there have been plenty if Netflix internal errors.
All in all, a typical picture of a new service in growing pains... no... agony... I hope they soon make much needed improvements, as such "service" is creating plenty of bad taste in many a mouth.

with my usual "arty" fare.
God help me, last night I wanted to see a bit of "Natural Born Killers," having read something earlier about the FX. Plenty of problems with interrupted service, low bars. This has only happened a few other times. Do you have super fast speed from your provider? We have the intermediate and it's fine, just a few seconds loading for all films, so far.
Yes, there are very few like that, but most of the time I suspect there are all of five people in the country watching... I think it might have to do with the quality of our connection. Last night I was taking speed tests, and the results were all over the place. Different sites gave us TOTALLY different results, so go figure! Download speed varied from under 2 to close to 10, depending upon the test site.
What's most annoying is when it starts at four dots or even HD, and seconds later stops, drops to two dots. Teasers...
