great film. Still, if one can forgive the ridiculously contrived ending, it still is one of the year's best. Isabelle Huppert gives a zen performance of effortless anguish, watching powerlessly as her family coffee plantation is overrun by inimical forces either of which could murder her. Christopher Lambert turns in a surprisingly adept performance as her ex-husband who faces reality, but cannot seem to get his family to realize the mortal danger. The cinematography and score are excellent, and that is a rare combination these days, but it is the masterful story-telling keeps you looking and on edge.
I just wish Denis hadn't seen, "Apocalypse, Now!"
Follow Ups:
I thought her son going Apocalypse Now was a bit much. Obviously this was a very personal movie for Denis since it had no real ending.
