Following the Netflix recommendations - of the "You are gonna love these!" kind, saw two more film noir that I have not seen before.
The first one was Night and the City. Not bad at all, although a bit longish, but with plot more complicated than average.
The second one - The Big Caper - sent me on a search for more information on Mary Costa. Turned out it was quite colorful, so I advise you to do the same. I would rate that film somewhat lower on the absolute scale, but still, when you are in mood for noir, it will do marvelously well!

...when I'm in a noirish mood. I actually feel it's a bit underrated in the noir pantheon. Dassin subsequently made a series of outstanding movies in Europe and those are the ones that tend to get more attention - this was his last before he was blacklisted. Widmark is excellent in this (his best role), the b&w cinematography is atmospheric and it has a good Franz Waxman score. I rented the Criterion edition last time out and it's a gorgous transfer.
I haven't seen The Big Caper in years and years, I might have to revisit this one.
sucks so I think I did and it just won't access the archive for some reason. Pretty good movie. She obviously has class; no matter how good an actress is, it seems the one elusive thing, impossible to portray if an actress doesn't naturally possess it. I've gone through heavy film noir periods, this is a lesser film, but I think she elevates it.
