very large concepts. The difference between a Tarkovsky and a, for instance, Mallick, is that the latter hammers you incessantly over the head with his "grand idea" whereas the Russian is subtle, letting you try and decipher the puzzle. The three central figures are fascinating characters, the actors of exquisite ability rarely seen in commercial films.
