"Nobi" aka "Fires on the Plain": Kon Ichikawa

A Japanese film set in the Philippines at the end of WW2; it's old, it's in Black + White and it's a Classic

+ I'll 2nd "Hell in the Pacific" which is also excellent,but be warned: there are 2 edits, one with a "good" ending + the other which is not so good...

+ just for fun: "Run Silent, Run Deep" Burt Lancaster/Clark Gable which might just squeak in as a Pacific war submarine film
