I thought his novel 'Huey Long' was also excellent...it makes a nice bookend with Robert Penn Warren's 'All The Kings Men'.
Where are writers of that calibre these days?

Follow Ups:
"The Moro War"A nice tome about our battle against a Moslem insurgency in the Phillipines from 1902-1913. Well written but lacks the drama of the best historical novels. It does, however, obliterate some of the myths surrounding how Captain Pershing dealt with the Moslems. Obviously the story, if not exactly the tactics used, are relevant today.

I'm going to correct that soon.
Thanks.
