standard set in sight; this film must have been brutal to work in.
And it paid off: a bare bones thriller about a plane wreck that leaves few survivors, grizzled energy workers returning from their far off site, to contend with a pack of vicious wolves.
NOT your typical flesh-render, at all, but a shockingly (for the genre) quiet meditation on life, the will to live, and the hereafter. But, no, it isn't a metaphysical exercise: the Alpha wolf and his Omega pals have plenty to do to keep the audience--- and the characters--- wondering who will be next to succumb to the grinding jaws and ripping teeth.
Neeson is less wooden than usual and terribly effective as the guy who tries to become the human Alpha male and the mostly unknown cast, broken down into the usual stereotypes, don't challenge his status as top actor, either.
A ripping good time, a thinking man's survival epic.
