or Dare mo shiranai, an achingly poignant japanese film from '04 about forgotten children and lost childhood.
A mother abandons her four children, leaving them to fend for themselves in a urban appartment.
The film is candid, realist, with astonishhing performances by non-actor kids, especially the 12 year old eldest who tries his best to keep things together, unsuccessfully.
Really worth watching.
Follow Ups:
"After Life" and "Maborisi."
I haven't seen any of his others, but these three place him in very elite company, indeed.
