I think it's the most obstuse of Hitchcock's films. Almost in the vein of THE CABINET OF DOCTOR CALIGARI but not as abstract. The abstraction comes from the actions of the characters and not the set. The almost helter skelter spastic behavior of the actors especially Jessica Tandy on seeing the farmer with his eyes pecked out and her loss of cool, the school children in the classroom singing that pedantic song, Tippi Hedren's insistance of playing practical jokes however logistically awkward their execution might become. A truly great film! Ray
