...this received a rave review in the local newspaper chain - "the best film you will see this year".And rated at the top by the "Consensus of Critics".
So I couldn't pass it up.
It centers on a 6 year old girl named Hushpuppie living with her father in small island in the New Orleans delta as Hurricane Katrina approaches.
The characters are interesting and pretty well developed - not anyone you'd want to hang out with, but grits probably can relate.
The young first time actress is incredible and really the only reason to see this film - she should be nominated for an Oscar.
It is very depressing to realize there are people living in our country in the kind of squalor you saw the kids living in in Slumdog Millionaire.
No one in this film hits the jackpot.
Again, somewhat depressing but well done.
I'd give it a B-.

I loved it and agree with the local newspaper.
I've added it to my Neflix queue to see one day. I have over 100 discs in my queue.
