In Reply to: RE: "Skyfall:" very, very far below the first 2 Craig films. Javier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes posted by tinear on November 09, 2012 at 16:33:33
The opening sequence was disappointing compared to the first Craig film. The plot almost bordered on the unbelievable with Bardem being a swishy villain who is also one of the world's top computer hackers.
The payoff in this installment is the final segment where the more things change the more they stay the same. It's hard to wait over two hours for the "money shot" but it is a warm, comforting thrill of sorts.
Attendance is mandatory so go ahead and take your donut cushion with you.
PS. Movie makers, give Istanbul and the Grand Bazaar a rest already.
Follow Ups:
softer, nicer guy emasculates the first two films careful crafting of him as a brutal killing machine.
And I'd disagree strongly w/your view of the end: trite as hell and enough w/the fake FX. It's hard to believe they can afford to have a second-unit in Malaysia (or wherever it was) and Macau and not find a REAL Scottish castle on the moors?
It was very poorly written, both as action and as drama, and Albert Finney: what the fuck????
Who cared about him? No relationship was pre-developed, at all.
How about the waste of Fiennes?
And Bardem was just silly, not scary at all.
Let's face it: execrable writing AND pathetic direction.
Sam Mendes is NOT an action director.
Or much of one, at all.
