In China, there exists an ethnic no-man's land populated by second-class citizens of Korean origin; when they return home to Korea (usually illegally), they also are considered second-class, yet the prejudice is less intense.
One such man, a cabbie, goes into serious debt to have his wife smuggled back to "the old country." However, compounding his difficulty in paying the debt is his addiction to gambling. Soon, the smuggling syndicate realizes his repayment prospects are hopeless and force him, by threatening his grandmother and daughter, to agree to a hit in Korea.
Once there, he finds he's not alone in wanting the target killed; in typical Korean fashion, the plot thickens into a coagulated goo of organs/appendages/tissue/blood.
This is entertainment far beyond the posturing, preening, wise-cracking, and relatively glacially paced American products of the genre.
The Asians have left us far behind in exciting, contemporary film.
