trying to develop characters before having them burned, shot, blown-up, dismembered, etc.
Colin Farrell is the sensitive, brooding type out to settle a score with Terrence Howard who was indirectly responsible for his family's death; Noomi Rapace, disfigured (well, actually her figure was fine, it's her face: a milder version of the Joker) by a bad driver's momentary inattention, seeks overkill: these two emotionally wounded creatures find in each other the vehicles of vengeance and release.
Or some such twaddle.
Anyhow, it's the same director responsible for the Dragon Girl films; it has a rather meaningless cameo by Isabelle Huppert: can't she wrestle a few roles in France from the ubiquitous Juliette Binoche?

at the Sinema. I was surprised at their "international" casting with Rapace, Huppert, and Farrell. It took place in the USA so there were a lot of casting ops available here. I guess international distribution was the goal of this.
Nothing wrong with Huppert other than playing an over-bearing French mother worried about her little girl's chances for romance. I think Rapace and Farrell are two of the most overrated performers walking around. They have no real depth.
