is it legal to post about a tv mini-series here? Anyone else watching the Vikings production? On every Sunday eve, but all 4 or so episodes available throughout the week on rerun/catch-up. I'm sure a real Norse history geek would pick at the depiction, but for the amateur, it'll put you in a sense of period. Lot of daily life nitty gritty, including many of their 'bad habits'. Strong acting for this kind of series, IMO. International cast.
Follow Ups:
This is probably the most serious production on the subject of the vikings I've seen. And very well produced.Of course when I think of vikings films I can recall some that had a memorable moment or two.
"The Vikings", with Kirk Douglas, Ernest Borgnine and Tony Curtis. Borgnine stealing the show on that one. Campy but fun. There is a great mead-hall scene, etc.
"The Thirteenth Warrior" is a more recent film that I find memorable. A rousing adventure story.
There was another in the mid sixties that fell short. Richard Widmark, Sidney Poitier...."The Long Ships". But this one I'd put toward the bottom of any list....but maybe still on the list.
There must be more, but that's what I can remember. Anyway, this new series is the best yet. Rather than a fantasy, it attempts to present a historical simulation of the Vikings earliest raids. The beginnings of their reign of terror. Good adventure.
