We switched from Comcast to U-Verse. They sent one of their most experienced installers and he spent about 6 hours doing the wire-up. It failed almost immediately. After several abortive attempts, we got it running properly.
Then the overcharges and double-billing started. I spent many, many frustrating hours trying to get it rectified. In the end, we blew them away and came back to Comcast.
It still isn't as good as I would like, but at least I got some of my life back.
My very best experience with providers was with Verizon in Washington, DC. Their FIOS service was lightning fast and they did the job right the first time. I wish So. Fla. would let Verizon compete for our dollars...

That's terrible. Have you ever filed a complaint against AT&T with the BBB or some other consumer group? I'm getting fed up with them.

But I really have many more important things to do with the 24 hours I'm allotted each day. I get back at AT&T by proselytizing against them with friends, clients, etc. and by vowing to never send another dollar their way.
And I have sung Verizon's praises for their FIOS service. It is a damn shame that throughout the US, cable cos. and such have been able to restrict competition by buying off the politicians in each jurisdiction. But hey, that's been the way of world since man touched the Monolith and gained self-awareness...
