in this smoldering but pointless movie of drugs, family, and the unstoppable force of police vengeance. Ryan Gosling does little more than stare into the camera and get his ass kicked. Kristin Scott Thomas plays his Oedipal mother who has come to Bangkok to bury her favorite son whose death she blames on Gosling. In the mix of all the violence is a vicious, unbeatable police captain who kicks ass and murders bad guys throughout the movie. He tortures a drug dealer in what is one of the more gruesome scenes ever filmed. Refn (Danish) made a lot of money on the Pusher series and 'Drive' but this is absolutely without any merit. If you like violence and long pregnant pauses then this is your cup of blood.
