After episodes like The Red Wedding one can't ever feel his favorite characters will make it to the next episode, much less the end of the series.

G.O.T. asks a lot of its viewers and unlike network offerings, doesn't play down to the lowest common denominator.

They made that fairly clear in the first season. Season 3 was a bit more complex than 1 & 2. Didn't like it as much as the first two seasons. Even without the red wedding, they ramped up the violence. There will be more new characters in 4, two of which will be played by British porn stars. I'm hoping this will mean they are ramping up the nudity instead of the violence.
Since I don't get cable, I'll have to wait until the discs come out. :-(
