At 150 minutes long at least 120 were fist-slinging action. Shortly after 'The Raid' one of the survivors (Rama) is sent undercover to bust the gangs and crooked cops of Jakarta. His mission begins in prison where beatings and killings churn out faster than Top 40 tunes. From his release he works from within a prime family and ends up inside a war with a rival Japanese clan. Ah, who needs plot when you have this exquisite fight choreography and ultra-violence happening nearly non-stop.
You have your knife fights, fist fights, kick fights, baseball and aluminum bat fights, elbow fights, and (my favorite) claw hammer fights with a lovely Japanese hit woman. After about two hours I began to wonder where a human body finds the stamina to go from one altercation to the next in a matter of minutes. Well, anything goes in Jakarta, I guess.
If you are a real violence sicko this is your movie. Unlike the original this is not one prolonged fire fight but one rock'em sock'em scene after another. If your inner juvenile delinquent needs a blood/gore fix this is the one--otherwise just don't rent it.
