I thought Father Damien was in blessed category for a long time. We were taught about him in our catechism classes. Became a Saint only recently though. The Salesian order used to mail pamphlets about him and St Don Bosco and St Dominic Savio which my mother used to force us children to read.
I also remember St Maria Goretti.
