view it as an occupation; they go home, eat dinner, watch tv, kick the dog or the wife, have "normal" lives. The power of cognitive dissonance and deflection ("I'm just following orders, doing my job").

...when torture and murders were so widespread, there were numerous stories of such people.
Some notable examples included a guy who personally executed up to 500 people EACH DAY. He had a family, children, he would leave for work in the morning and return in time for dinner. Looked perfectly normal.
