In Reply to: RE: Citizenfour (no spoilers, until others pipe in, and yes there are spoilers) posted by Mark Man on February 24, 2015 at 19:36:20
As for Citizen Four, he was certainly shown in a light that we (Americans) had never seen on the MSM. As for the political side (should we or should we be doing this) I think the dark haired building block shaped dude who testified at the European Parliament pretty well summed up the "we shouldn't" argument logically and passionately.
Like I said, I'm still processing. As for my wife, her motherly instincts kicked in, as she just wanted to reach out and hug that 29 year old CitizenFour when he was all alone and obviously distressed in his Mira Hotel room once the shite started hitting the fan.

RW...
I do appreciate any movie that makes me think and question...there is no black or white here...knowing the politics of the film makers, I was expecting a MORE heavy handed left slant...I did not get that...
I "thought" this could be a Snowden rallying cry and put him as a Liberal Icon Freedom Fighter, it did not...what it did do is show a conflicted man, who seemed he had to keep convincing himself, this was the right thing to do...I understand your wife's need to give him a hug, but he was not an over-sympatric character...
The world view of this was the meat and potatoes of this tale for me...since our Judicial System does not reach across borders...the US Intelligence Community has card blanche to basically do anything they want with impunity...call me naïve, but I did not know the extent of this policy...
IMHO, we US Citizens are not very aware of what the REST of the world is thinking...It has been driven into our heads "We are the best country in the World and they all want what we have" from as far back as I can remember...right or wrong...the term "ugly American", has been earned...
I understand why the Oscar voters liked this movie...not seeing any of the other contenders, (and I often question if ALL the voters have also), that this was a popular easy vote for them...It is well made and captures the intensity of what they are about to endeavor into...the cat and mouse aspect was real...
Greenwald, at times, was the left antitheist of "Kirt Cameron Saves Christmas"...he relished in being the face of Snowden, with his own agenda ...reminiscent, of dare I say, of Bill O's "your humble reporter"...if that is even possible...where their egos are bigger than the story...just a thought...I am going to watch this again...
Thank you for your insights...
Mark
