re: Bardem.....I thought "No country for Old Men" was a sort of break-out movie for him. At least in North America. After that he started getting Hollywood A-list movie roles. And he continues to appear regularly in new movies.....but some of them are made in Europe and in his native country, Spain.I thought he rendered a very colorful Mexican drug runner in "The Counselor". But I disliked his Bond bad guy character in "Skyfall".
I'll probably wait for "The Gunman" to hit cable. Not because Bardem is in it. .....Sean Penn...... I've never been a fan of Penn's work. Although that work of his that I have seen (not very much) does seem rather dry. I'm not sure why Hollywood continues to give work to this actor. He lacks those qualities that cause a viewer to root for his character. A little too dry, perhaps. Not particularly likeable.
And after his appearance at the Oscars this year, I am less likely to go out of my way to see any of his films.
