I liked Louis the first couple of seasons. It was a refreshing mix of comedy, serious issues, real life pathos. The last couple of seasons, though, it's just been a grind watching this perennial loser who can do nothing right.
And that's exactly what we've been served with this new series. Right off the bat, we get to watch a genuinely pathetic human being who someone figured would be funny just by being a loser. I guess it helps if he's fat. Helps if he's awkward around women. Helps if he appears to welcome being crapped on by every person that he comes into contact with.

Same here. Though I really like Louis CK in general, he just can't be allowed to have free range on his TV shows, because they IMO go downhill quickly.
If you read between the lines of the extras from his first TV show (Lucky Louie, lasted one season), he couldn't tolerate outsiders (pro/experienced TV people) being involved in his show. He wants to do what he wants to do. Thus his first show on FX where he had free reign with an adequate budget. By the second half of the second season it was pretty tired already.
Big diff between writing for a standup show and writing for a regular TV show. That's why (good) UK TV shows have about 6 eps/"season", that's all one or two writers can do in the time frame, as opposed to a roomful of writers for a typical major U.S. show. I can see that someone so independent of thought would have a hard time giving up some control.
