Begins in November, 1951, with Chris Pine bumbling through a new romantic encounter with one of the town's hotties. That was the best part for me. So believable, so FIFTIES.
Then the storm rolls in and the new commanding officer feels the need to make points and save lives by sending out a rather small boat to battle gale force seas and locate one half of a T2 tanker.
Special effects were bonkers and the scenes below decks excellent in showing how Casey Affleck assumed command in trying to keep his half afloat. Pine in his supercharged skiff did his best to fight the seas and proceed as ordered. Much drama everywhere: the tanker, the rescue boat, and the Coast Guard station house.
With this being a Disney thing you can bet on a big, well spent budget that makes it an entertaining thrill of sorts.
Not sure how this works in 3D because it looked pretty flat in 2D. Someone should report back on how 3D looked when the entire rescue craft completely submerges and comes up with engines running.
If you have something important to do take a cable rain check. Otherwise, it's okay but it is Disney.
