Kate still looks pretty good and she can talk really fast. In fact, talking fast is her thing here in order to bamboozle all comers as to what her true ambitions are. She plays Lady Vernon who is navigating the field of eligible men for both herself and her daughter. She bounces from relatives to friends in order to have lodgings while acting as if this was expected.
The dialog was a tad overwrought due to the talents of sway-doe intellecksual Whit Stillman. If this had been adapted by a Brit it would have beaten the faux 99% on Tomater.
For its budget, this was well filmed and production values on sagged a tiny bit in places. Overall, it was an effort that gets extra points in comparison to the current field of film. My favorite character was Sir James Martin played by Tom Bennett. Bennett took "dithering idiot" to new heights unseen even by Hugh Laurie. A true amusement to watch him work.
Not being as smitten by this as others dictate I would say the significant-other would probably appreciate being escorted for a viewing. After all, it is Jane Austen.
PS. This is a real primer on Brit Social snobbery. Fortunately, most of this still survives in the Colony.
