Fortitude is an island off the coast of Iceland where the principle concern is mining coal. Things have been very sleepy until a murder is committed soon followed by another. The town's sheriff works to solve it but the Island governor feels the sheriff needs help. Enter the retired FBI guy working for London Police (Tucci) who begins a methodical investigation that raises more and more questions than thought possible.
'Fortitude' has a large cast all running crazy in their own way: a formerly drunk sheriff, a Governor married to a policeman, a discharged Royal helicopter pilot from Afghanistan, a drunken photographer and long-time resident (Gambon), and the expat DCI sent from London to hurry up the case. There are tons of twists and turns in this 13-part miniseries that merits to be on your list. The cinematography keeps you feeling chilly from all scenic vistas and blowing snow. You may want to drink hot tea in July--they would in Fortitude.

Good production values, but Jesus.... it was SO GRIM. And the ending... off the rails dark.
I think it promised more than it delivered.
